why do most racecars with a covered cockpit, leave the windshield wiper in a vertical position when its not raining?

I would guess Aerodynamics. I also plan on this for my DD metro, because areo & racecar.

It is an airflow thing, if you watch vintage racing videos, you'll see the wipers trying to lift off the windshield at high speeds, that's why they designed the blade style wiper, instead of the rocker arm ones. I'd hazard to guess that they just leave it vertical to avoid the issue all together, can't really lift or flutter if it's inline with the flow.

that makes sense... the wipers on my car look like there trying to rip themselves off at 90 so I can only imagine at speeds closer to 200...

They do it for a few reasons, actually:
1. To reduce drag.
2. To give a better, more quickly cleaned, range of motion.
3. To fuck with us.
The third one, in particular, is of note. Pretty sure that's the same reason teams still hire Milka Duno, not for the money but to fuck with us.
